Per Eriksson Founder of Kläppen

To honour Per Eriksson, his passion for downhill skiing and racing, we are now renaming the popular race Kläppen Rennen to Kläppen Rennen - A race for Per. It is a super-G race from the top of Kläppenberget and a race where the whole family can participate. This year, we have chosen to make the race into something bigger, something that extends beyond the slopes and gives hope for the future, and we want you to join us along the way. By participating in the competition, you become part of the fight against dementia diseases, each competition fee goes in full to dementia research and the dementia fund. Together we not only create memories on the slopes but also hope for those fighting dementia.

Per Eriksson was a passionate skier and competed in the 60s in slalom and giant slalom. It was Per who started the competition Kläppen Rennen back in the 1980s, which is still a popular competition on Kläppenberget today.

Per was a recognised skilled skier and took many podiums both in Dalarna and in the region of Östergötland, where he was district champion. His passion for skiing and competitions led him to the mountains, and at the end of the 1970s Per started as site manager for Lindvallen's ski centre. Later, the opportunity to help create a new facility from scratch was something Per did not hesitate to do, and Kläppen was founded in 1982.

Racing was particularly close to Per's heart, and Kläppen quickly became known for its excellent conditions for competition and training for alpine groups. The national team chose Kläppen as a training arena and major competitions landed in Lostupet, including the 1986 World Cup in downhill skiing and the 1987 Junior World Cup in slalom and giant slalom. Today we have the Kläppen Race Arena for alpine competition groups, where we want to pass on our history and passion for racing and skiing and provide the country's competitors with good conditions for training.

In 2017, Per was unfortunately diagnosed with frontal lobe dementia. Frontal lobe dementia is also called frontal lobe dementia, it is a rare dementia disease and to some extent has completely different symptoms than the other dementia diseases. Memory problems often come later in the disease compared to other types of dementia. It is often discovered that the personality changes. Gradually, the nerve cells in the affected area of the brain wither and the brain eventually "forgets" normal functions. In 2021, Per passed away as a result of the disease.

To honour Per Eriksson, his passion for downhill skiing and racing, we are now renaming the popular super-G race Kläppen Rennen to Kläppen Rennen - A race for Per. In connection with this, we also want to contribute to the research and development towards a future way to cure dementia diseases. The race fees go in full to dementia research and the dementia fund.
