Operations, our promise for a more sustainable Kläppen
At Kläppen, we want to take responsibility for the mountain we operate on. Therefore, we have set clear goals for a sustainable future. It is a big task, but also an obvious one. We love the mountain and want our guests to be able to enjoy it in the future as well.
-
By 2027, all operations related to skiing will be completely fossil-free.
-
By 2030, the entire Kläppen Ski Resort will be fossil-free, from buildings to businesses.
We are proud of the steps we have already taken and humble about what remains. With commitment, new technology, and a strong desire to protect nature, we continue every day to work towards a completely fossil-free resort.
Energy-Efficient Operations
We are actively working to reduce our energy consumption and increase efficiency across the entire resort. All new lifts have adjustable frequency motors that vary speed as needed to further reduce energy use. In addition, all electricity we use comes from fossil-free sources such as water, solar, and wind.
-
LED lighting in all slopes since 2018 has significantly decreased our electricity consumption.
-
We use energy-efficient snow cannons and an advanced control system to ensure the right amount of snow is produced, no more, no less.
-
A self-filling water reservoir at the top enables us to produce snow with minimal pumping needs, saving large amounts of energy.
-
In 2022, we invested 40 million in even more energy-efficient snow production.
Impact-Making Vehicles
For many years, we have worked to reduce the climate impact from our vehicles.
-
Since 2019, all diesel vehicles run on 100% fossil-free HVO.
-
Grooming machines use GPS and snow depth measurement to avoid unnecessary trips.
-
Staff switch lift stations using skis instead of snowmobiles when possible.
-
We are reducing the number of snowmobiles and aim for all other vehicles to be electric or fossil-free by 2027.
Buildings and Lodgings with Care
-
All buildings are heated with ground or geothermal heating.
-
We use FTX ventilation that recycles heat.
-
Continuously switching to LED and energy-efficient technology.
-
Nearly 90% of all lodgings are accessible via ski-in/ski-out, allowing guests to leave their car parked throughout their stay.
-
Over 30% of lodgings have electric vehicle chargers, with more to come.
-
Cleaning is done with environmentally certified products.
-
On the campsite, guests manage their own electricity consumption using modern systems.
Effective Recycling for All
-
All lodgings have waste sorting within 200 metres.
-
In total, we sort seven fractions – even in the slopes.
-
All deposit returns are fully directed to the local nature conservation association.
-
The staff sort waste the same way as guests, and workshops have their own environmental stations.
Genuine Sustainable Growth
Growing sustainably means growing wisely, not quickly.
-
Through our master plan, we expand where the need is greatest, such as lift capacity and slopes.
-
Together with authorities, we preserve areas with high natural values around the mountain.
-
We develop products and services with the least possible environmental impact.
-
We actively engage in the sharing economy: guests can rent everything from skis to winter clothing from us.
-
We encourage guests to travel here by train and bus.
