Kläppen Syd

Kläppen Syd

Kläppen continues to develop with the aim of creating a connected and sustainable ski experience on the mountain for the long term. Kläppen Syd is the next step in this development, with plans to expand the ski area with more slopes, lifts and accommodation. Work is already underway, with the current focus on permits and preparations ahead of construction.

First phase: Backholens skidområde

The first phase of the expansion is the Backholens skidområde. Here, we are planning five new slopes of varying difficulty and a chairlift connecting the area with the gondola’s top station and the Falken ski area.

The design creates a natural connection to the existing ski area while adding more variety for both beginners and experienced skiers.

Planning process and permits

The project has taken longer than originally planned, partly due to the pandemic and new EU directives related to environmental assessments. Together with the municipality and the County Administrative Board, we have therefore developed a clear process for moving the project forward. To proceed according to our master plan, we need:

  • a planning programme
  • an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA)
  • a detailed development plan for the ski area

The EIA is part of the planning programme and provides the basis for how the expansion can be carried out with consideration for the natural environment and surrounding area. Several environmental surveys have already been completed, and the work continues to ensure sustainable development over the long term.

Timeline and scope

During 2026, we expect to complete the additional work required. The planning programme can then move forward for review and, if the process continues as planned, gain legal approval.

The next step will be to develop the detailed development plan for the entire ski area.

The extended timeline is also due to the scale of the project. Kläppen Syd covers the entire long-term development of the area and, when fully developed, will be approximately the same size as Kläppen’s current ski area. Additional studies have also been required, including assessments of stormwater, landslide risk, birdlife and natural values.

Accommodation and the bigger picture

Alongside the ski area, we are planning new cabin areas. Our aim is to create a connected environment where accommodation, slopes and nature work together and are easy to access during your stay on Kläppenberget.

Development will take place step by step, with the same care for the surroundings as always. Once all permits are in place, we will be ready to begin, but at present there is no confirmed construction start date.

Further updates

We will continue to share updates about Kläppen Syd as decisions are made and the project moves forward. Here, you can easily follow the development over time.
