Kläppen Syd
Kläppen continues to develop with the goal of creating a cohesive and long-term sustainable ski experience on the mountain. Kläppen Syd is the next step in that journey, a planned expansion of the ski area with additional slopes, lifts and accommodation. Work has begun, and the current focus is on permits and preparations ahead of future construction.
First phase: Backholen ski area
The first phase of the expansion is the Backholen ski area. Here, we are planning five new slopes of varying difficulty, along with a chairlift connecting the area to the gondola’s top station and the Falken ski area.
The design creates a natural connection to the existing slopes while adding more variety for both beginners and experienced skiers.
Planning process and permits
The project has taken longer than initially planned, partly due to the pandemic and new EU regulations related to environmental assessments.
Together with the municipality and the County Administrative Board, we have developed a clear process for how the expansion can move forward. To proceed according to our master plan, the following is required:
- a planning program
- an environmental impact assessment (EIA)
- a detailed development plan for the ski area
The EIA is part of the planning program and forms the basis for how the expansion can be carried out with consideration for nature and surroundings. Several environmental surveys have been conducted, and the work continues to ensure a sustainable long-term development.
Timeline and scope
During 2026, we expect to complete the required additions. After that, the planning program can be reviewed and, if the process proceeds as planned, gain legal approval.
The next step will be the detailed development plan for the entire ski area.
The extended timeline is also due to the size of the project. Kläppen Syd represents the long-term development of the area and is, in its entirety, roughly the same size as the current resort. Additional studies have also been required, including stormwater management, landslide risk, bird life and natural values.
Accommodation and overall concept
Alongside the ski area, new cabin areas are being planned. The ambition is to create a cohesive environment where accommodation, slopes and nature work together and are easy to enjoy during your time on Kläppenberget.
The development will take place step by step, with the same care for the surroundings as always. Once all permits are in place, we are ready to begin — but at this stage, no construction start date has been set.
Ongoing updates
We will continue to share updates about Kläppen Syd as decisions are made and the project progresses. Here, you’ll be able to easily follow the development over time.
